The second annual Kevin Lee Grand Prix was hosted at Fastimes Karting on April 11, 2017. This event, was started in the memory of Ben Burchard, a 12 year old straight-A student and quarter-midget driver from Brownsburg, IN. When he was diagnosed with bone cancer at age 11, the treatments available to him were the same that were available thirty years before. Ben lost his life to cancer, but not before asking that donations in his memory benefit the Caroline Symmes Cancer Endowment and contribute to further research to help other kids. Ben’s selflessness continues to fuel and inspire those who knew him and who race in his memory.
This year, Indycar driver, Matthew Brabham took first place.Loyal Fastimes enthusiast, Matthew Gruenholz took second, and Indy Lights driver Luke Gabin swept in at third . This year the silent auction and raffle at the event raised over $4,700 for the Caroline Symmes Endowment.
We are so grateful to all those who came and contributed, as well as Fastimes Karting for hosting. We’d also like to thank Kevin Lee of 1070 The Fan and ESPN Sports for lending his name and his time to this event. Sullivan’s Steakhouse and Redemption Alewerks also deserve kudos for keeping us fed and satisfied. Thank you most of all to Ben Burchard and his family; we are honored to be affiliated with you.
